(00:22:13) AnkiKurayami: Need sleep here.
(03:22:26) EmilyMarthaClark: I hate IE. I totally understand it.
(03:22:26) AnkiKurayami <AUTO-REPLY>: To sleep, perchance to dream.
(03:22:29) EmilyMarthaClark: Why is it being such a pain?
(03:22:43) EmilyMarthaClark: I didn't realize it was going to be so difficult. I hoped it was just a simple little thing.
(03:34:17) EmilyMarthaClark: If it's just that one horrible version of IE (was it IE 6?), we could possibly ignore it.
(03:34:17) AnkiKurayami <AUTO-REPLY>: To sleep, perchance to dream.
(19:37:14) EmilyMarthaClark: Thank you for everything you said.
(19:37:14) AnkiKurayami <AUTO-REPLY>: To sleep, perchance to dream.
(19:37:22) EmilyMarthaClark: I started talking to Ben about it, and he said much the same things.
(19:38:46) EmilyMarthaClark: I agree about the beta-reviewer thing, except for one thing: "I loved it and it's awesome!" is at least slightly more helpful, because even if it gives no more information than "I hate it and it's stupid," it at least provides alittle energy in the form of motivation and happiness. ;)
(19:39:31) EmilyMarthaClark: Thank you for everything you said.
(19:39:42) EmilyMarthaClark: It's really . . . comforting to hear not all my friends feel this way about me. ^_^'
(00:16:29) AnkiKurayami: There is that about the beta-reader thing, true.
(00:16:48) AnkiKurayami: The version of IE I have on this computer is IE 7, and the layers just aren't behaving properly
(00:17:08) AnkiKurayami: I've still got a few things I want to try
(00:25:44) EmilyMarthaClark: Okay
(00:25:58) EmilyMarthaClark: I'm glad you're having fun with it!
(00:26:07) EmilyMarthaClark: If you weren't, I'd feel guilty ;)
(00:26:30) AnkiKurayami: Oh, IE is excessively irritating, but I knew that going into the whole thing
(00:26:46) EmilyMarthaClark: Yeah, hate IE
(00:27:03) AnkiKurayami: Unfortunately, you can't ignore it
(00:27:28) EmilyMarthaClark: (Sniff sob)
(00:27:54) AnkiKurayami: Well, you could, but that would be a bad business move
(00:28:06) AnkiKurayami: As it still tends to be the most common browser
(00:28:13) EmilyMarthaClark: Blech
(00:28:15) EmilyMarthaClark: Yeah
(14:36:48) EmilyMarthaClark: Hey, Heather!
(14:36:48) AnkiKurayami <AUTO-REPLY>: I'm not here right now
(14:36:49) EmilyMarthaClark: Are you there?
(20:00:07) EmilyMarthaClark: (Sigh)
(20:00:07) AnkiKurayami <AUTO-REPLY>: I'm not here right now
(20:03:38) EmilyMarthaClark: I really wanted to get my whole website done this week.I just wanted my website done by the end of this week.
(20:05:32) EmilyMarthaClark: I didn't realize it was going to take days to tweak one little thing. I was just hoping it was one little thing.
(21:01:30) EmilyMarthaClark: I think I'm going to have to launch without any of your cool things, because I can't ask you to rush to finish it, especially if it's hard.
(21:01:30) AnkiKurayami <AUTO-REPLY>: I'm not here right now
(21:02:18) EmilyMarthaClark: If you want to keep messing with it, I can look to adding things in later.
(22:19:54) AnkiKurayami: Sorry I'm late
(22:20:10) EmilyMarthaClark: Hi!
(22:20:20) EmilyMarthaClark: It's okay, you're busy, I get it.
(22:20:30) EmilyMarthaClark: And I'm not mad or anything, I hope I don't come across that way.
(22:20:44) EmilyMarthaClark: Just mad at myself for using "Heather's working on it, I don't have to!" as an excuse for leaving it till the last minute. ^_^'
(22:20:51) AnkiKurayami: Heh
(22:21:43) AnkiKurayami: Well, I would love to keep working on it, but we can turn my updates into a version two layout.
(22:22:02) AnkiKurayami: Get a basic site up for starters, then work on improving the code
(22:22:13) EmilyMarthaClark: That makes sense.
(22:22:18) EmilyMarthaClark: Thank you for not being offended. (Wry grin.)
(22:22:30) EmilyMarthaClark: I don't wanna seem unhelpful, I just have to get something up, and I have to get it up as something I understand.
(22:22:41) AnkiKurayami: That is totally understandable
(22:22:43) EmilyMarthaClark: (If I can't change my code when I need to, there are many potential issues.)
(22:22:50) EmilyMarthaClark: I'm sure you get that! ;)
(22:23:29) AnkiKurayami: It's far better to get something basic up that you understand and can work with, then work on making improvements to it.
(22:23:50) EmilyMarthaClark: Yes, I agree.
(22:24:02) AnkiKurayami: And I honestly thought it would go faster than it is too. Stupid IE
(22:24:08) EmilyMarthaClark: Yeah.
(22:24:27) EmilyMarthaClark: I thought you'd need an hour to poke at it or something, and that would be it. I've been like "O_O" that you've been spending so much time on it.
(22:24:32) EmilyMarthaClark: I feel slightly guilty.
(22:24:42) AnkiKurayami: ::hugs:: I've been enjoying it
(22:24:53) EmilyMarthaClark: Okay, then I shall not commence worry.
(22:24:55) EmilyMarthaClark: m:P
(22:25:21) EmilyMarthaClark: I do have a question you may be able to answer quickly, however
(22:25:33) AnkiKurayami: Fire away ^_^
(22:25:47) EmilyMarthaClark: I've added links to my menu, but it's made them colorful and underlined and ugly. I don't want them the link color, or underlined, in the menu. I assume there's a way to fix this in the paragraph style for it?
(22:26:04) EmilyMarthaClark: I assume it's a simple change . . .
(22:27:17) AnkiKurayami: Yes, that would be a pretty simple change. Do you want all the links to work the same way, or just the menu links?
(22:27:41) EmilyMarthaClark: I like the other links being underlined and red (as specified earlier in the CSS, I believe).
(22:27:53) EmilyMarthaClark: So just the menu, no underlining or changing the color from what the menu specifies.
(22:28:10) AnkiKurayami: Let me run a quick check.
(22:29:56) AnkiKurayami: Okay, it's a super simple thing to do
(22:30:23) EmilyMarthaClark: I hoped it would be!
(22:32:14) AnkiKurayami: There are two parts. You will need to add some style direction in the head section of the page, and then you will need to add a class modifier to each of the links
(22:33:33) EmilyMarthaClark: What about adding this in the line afterwards?
(22:33:36) EmilyMarthaClark: p.menu a {text-decoration:none; color:#844602;}
(22:33:56) EmilyMarthaClark: Friend just told me to do it; it seems to work. Any potential to cause breakage, or is that good?
(22:35:19) AnkiKurayami: That might work....but it could break things. My suggestion is this:
<style type="text/css">
a.menu:link {color:#844602; text-decoration:none;}
a.one:visited {color:#844602; text-decoration:none;}
a.one:hover {color:#844602; text-decoration:none;}
</style>

(22:35:28) AnkiKurayami: Erk...hang on
(22:35:46) AnkiKurayami: <style type="text/css">
a.menu:link {color:#844602; text-decoration:none;}
a.menu:visited {color:#844602; text-decoration:none;}
a.menu:hover {color:#844602; text-decoration:none;}
</style>

(22:36:32) EmilyMarthaClark: Why is it better?
(22:36:36) EmilyMarthaClark: It looks more complicated, which worries me.
(22:36:52) EmilyMarthaClark: (I like to keep things as simple as possible. Easier to fix and keep track of everything.)
(22:36:52) AnkiKurayami: Then on each link, add class="menu" to the link section. Like this:

<a class="menu" href="linkhere.html">

(22:37:06) EmilyMarthaClark: Oh! I didn't realize you could do link classes.
(22:37:08) EmilyMarthaClark: That's interesting.
(22:37:21) AnkiKurayami: Yeah, by defining it this way, you can have link classes.
(22:37:33) EmilyMarthaClark: Okay, that makes more sense.
(22:37:34) AnkiKurayami: So you can define what you want your menu links to look like, what you want your news links to look like, etc
(22:37:58) AnkiKurayami: And by specifying "link" "visited" and "hover" you can be certain that the links will display the way you want them to
(22:38:06) EmilyMarthaClark: Right.
(22:38:36) AnkiKurayami: The other way, it might work, but it might only work for unvisited links. Or it could break when you're hovering. Or it won't work across browsers
(22:39:12) AnkiKurayami: And now I need to head out to pick up my family from the airport.
(22:40:23) EmilyMarthaClark: Oh!
(22:40:25) EmilyMarthaClark: Good luck.
(22:40:29) EmilyMarthaClark: Thank you for helping me.
